Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic

trainh13 Geology is simultaneously heavy business and meticulously detailed work. The Ocean know this since Phanerozoic I: Paleozoic is an epic journey through time that doesn't forget the details. Full of cascading choruses and bone crunching riffs, this sludgy history lesson isn't a class you'll want to skip. Favorite track: Cambrian II: Eternal Recurrence.

Elliott Johnson Scratches a prog extreme metal itch that hasn't been satisfied for me since "From Mars to Sirius." Something for everyone here! Favorite track: Permian: The Great Dying.

Nev Have been a fan for a long time but saw them live for the first time performing these songs and just blew me away. As a geologist with concern for the state of our environment and the damage humans are inflicting, I wholeheartedly approve these songs' messages Favorite track: Devonian: Nascent.

After 5 years of touring on Pelagial, THE OCEAN deliver their long-awaited 8th studio album, split into two volumes to be separately released in 2018 and 2020 respectively, titled Phanerozoic.

The Phanerozoic eon succeeded the Precambrian supereon, spanning a 500 million-year period leading to the present day. It has witnessed the evolution and diversification of plant and animal life on Earth, and the (partial) destruction of it during 5 mass extinction events.

Conceptually and musically, The Ocean’s Phanerozoic is the missing link between the albums Precambrian and Heliocentric / Anthropocentric.
